Precursors to Microdermabrasion
The concept of abrading the skin has been around for centuries. It can be dated as far back as 1500 BC when Egyptian doctors used paper similar to sandpaper to smooth out scars. In the 1900’s in Germany, an apparatus with rotating wheels and rasps was used to remove the upper layers of the skin.
Fifty years later, motorized wire brushes were used to replace hand powered tools. This way dermabrasion was born. Because of its popularity, microdermabrasion kits have become more and more accessible to the public in general. There are many different kits and creams available on the market that you can use in the comfort of your own home and at an affordable price.
There are two types of microdermabrasion kits. The first type of kit is the one that comes with a wand similar to the one used by professionals. This wand usually includes special attachments, a special scrub or gel and a microdermabrasion guide.
The second kind is a cream that contain an abrasive agent to exfoliate the skin.
