Dry Skin Solutions

by Patricia Bascunan

There is several home dry skin remedies that you can make to help sooth and cure dry chapped skin.

For example, taking a milk bath once a week aids to sooth and nourishes your skin. Warm your bath water and add a couple of scoops of powdered milk, a few drops of almond oil and a couple of drops of your favorite perfume or bath oils. Then just lay back, relax and let the milk pamper your skin and nourish it.

Another good tip is to exfoliate your skin, once a week, using a facial mask, this helps to remove dull, dry surface skin. Use a natural face mask and not one that contains bleaching and harsh chemicals like benzoyl peroxide or alcohol.

Not everyone understands that keeping a healthy diet can effect your skin type and hydrate your skin. If you consider the fact that your body is made up of 80% water, having less water in your body leads to a significant level of dryness.

Balanced Diets to help Dry Skin

* Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, seeds, grains, and nuts. Eat a good portion of proteins from vegetable sources. Increase your intake on raw vegetables because they contain more vitamins than cooked vegetables.

* Eat foods like onions, garlic, eggs, asparagus, these are all rich in sulfur and help to keep your skin young looking.

* Eat plenty of colorful vegetables, especially yellow and orange. These are rich in beta carotene and anti oxidants.

* Eating plenty of omega 3 oils in a regular diet help to keep your skin supple and moist, flack seed oil is a nice choice as it has Omega 3's and Omega 6 linoleic acids. These elements are converted into a hormone like substance called Prostaglandins, which help with healthy skin.

* Carrots, cantaloupes and apricots are all healing fruits for your very dry skin. These are all highly rich in vitamins A & C with help to keep your skin moistened and smooth. All the fruits are rich in vitamin B5 and pantothenic acids. Pantothenic acid is needed for the synthesis of fats and oils used by your skin.

* Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water everyday keeps your skin sufficiently hydrated.

* Avoid eating fried food, animal fats, and heated processed vegetable oils. Cooking oils leads to the synthesis of free radicals, which can have bad consequences on your skin.

* Stay away from elaborated sugars found in soda pop, chocolate (dark chocolate is ok) potato chips, or other manufactured junk foods.

* Avoid consuming caffeinated beverages and alcohol; these beverages take away important minerals and fluids that are good for your skin.

* Smoking has a damaging consequence on your skin for several reasons. Nicotine constricts blood vessels, including the tiny capillaries that are present in the skin. This depletes the skin of the oxygen and nutrients it requires for good health. Smoking can also make your skin dry and leathery.

Following these simple tips will help treat dry skin conditions.
